In a major music rights deal, Primary Wave Music Publishing announced the acquisition of a stake in the catalog of legendary songwriter Gerry Goffin. The deal, reportedly worth $20 million, grants Primary Wave control over a significant portion of Goffin's songwriting royalties.
Goffin, a Bronx-born lyricist, co-wrote some of the most iconic songs in music history alongside his then-wife Carole King. Their collaborations, which began in the late 1950s, include classics like "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "The Loco-Motion," and "It's Too Late."
The acquisition of Goffin's catalog comes as part of Primary Wave's ongoing strategy to invest in music rights. By purchasing a stake in the catalogs of influential artists and songwriters, Primary Wave aims to secure a steady stream of royalties from the use of these songs in various media and platforms.
According to Music Business Worldwide, the deal includes songs written by Goffin for artists like Aretha Franklin, Ben E. King, and the Monkees. The exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
